REGULAR WCLV FEATURE PROGRAMS

BBC News

THERE ARE FOUR WCLV INTERNET FEEDS - Windows Multicast, Ogg Vorbis 32K, Ogg Vorbis 64K and a MacIntosh friendly feed that also is iTunes capable.   Scroll down to the feed you want. You can also access WCLV's Windows Multicast  feed on every page of this website by clicking on the "On the Air Now" bug.

Because we do not have rights to broadcast some commercials on the Internet, from time to time, there will be pauses in the programming. Our thanks to the members of The Cleveland Orchestra for allowing us to stream the Orchestra's concerts.

OGG VORBIS 32K  INTERNET FEED  Connect here

Two of our streams use Ogg Vorbis, an open source and patent free audio codec, that promises quality at standard bit-rates superior to that of other current formats -- hear it for yourself!  This one is for 32K feeds.  You probably already have an audio player capable of hearing Ogg Vorbis. Winamp is a popular Windows client. Go to  www.vorbis.com or www.winamp.com and download the free Winamp player. Also, www.software.psp has a large though not exhaustive list of software that supports ogg vorbis.  The two Ogg Vorbis streams have limited capacity for the number of listeners.

WINDOWS INTERNET FEED CONNECT HERE

Our Windows feed is  from the  multicaster Radiocast 24x7. Click on the "Connect here." The log-on capacity is unlimited,  and the stream will adjust to your bandwidth. You may also connect with the Windows feed from any of the "On the Air Now" bugs, found on each page of this website.

A Macintosh friendly, iTunes capable connection: Connect here

Radiocast 24/7 has developed a Windows feed that is Macintosh friendly and iTunes capable. We trust this will put all the Macintosh users into a better mood.

Linnea Nereim, bass clarinet of The Cleveland Orchestra, has kindly outlined the procedure for Mac users to follow in connecting with the WCLV stream and using iTunes:

Control-Click on the above link "Connect here."  Do not just click.
Click on Copy Link Location
Open iTunes
Click on Open Stream in the Advanced menu
Paste the saved link into the URL window using Apple-V
Click OK

All you need to do to listen in future is go to the Music library
in iTunes and select Welcome to WCLV, and hit the spacebar, and
you'll hear the live broadcast.

A FEW TECHNICAL NOTES REGARDING THE WINDOWS FEEDS:

IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS CONNECTING,  HERE ARE SOME TROUBLE SHOOTING SUGGESTIONS FROM RADIOCAST

Listener Has an Older Windows Media Player Version or Uses a Non-Windows Internet Explorer Browser

RadioCast24x7.com presents its stream to the internet using Windows Media System Version 9. Older Windows Media Player versions such as version 4 or 7 may not work with the version RadioCast24x7.com uses. The listener may benefit from the upgrade of his player version to version 9 or 10 by downloading the free newer version directly from the Microsoft Corporation. If an internet browser is used other than the Windows Internet Explorer or Netscape, a plug-in from that software vendor, such as Mozilla, may be required in order for the Windows Media Player to operate correctly.

Listener Connects to the Internet via a Dial-Up Internet Service Provider

Although dial-up ISPs advertise their service as 56 kilobytes per second connection rate, they, more often than not, actually connect the user at a much lower Kbps rate, such as 19k or 26k. If the listener attempts to connect to WCLV's bandwidth that is higher than the listener's dial-up connection rate, the player will constantly "rebuffer" and the stream will be rendered nearly incoherent.

WCLV has a dual bandwidth offering such as a 32K stream for broadband listeners and a 16k or 20k stream for dial-up listeners. The broadband listener has a much higher fidelity signal at 32k while we still offer a dial-up listener a signal their internet connection will process.

Listener attempts to connect to WCLV's internet stream while at work and the WMS player opens, but no audio signal is present.

In most circumstances where the above situation occurs and other causes of failed connection have been ruled out, the next logical source of failure is the business use of a proxy server and software designed to block radio streaming throughout the business network. The user should contact the network administrator to determine the proper course of action. Some businesses have used this means of making sure their network resources are always available for business applications only.

Listener experiences frequent "rebuffering" of the station's broadcast and the listener is not using a dial-up ISP.

Although this happens infrequently, a router or some piece of equipment may fail somewhere on a leg of the internet. This outage could be intermittent or continuous. Your first line of thinking may be that your host has gone down for some reason, but this should be the last line of thought as RadioCast24x7.com utilizes redundant power-grid supplies, diesel backup generators, battery backup, fail-over load-balancing, and multiple backbone carriers to the internet.
